2013 World Series Game 5

The Joy of Sox blog sums it up..    Now we are back to Fenway for games 6 and 7.   This is an incredible never say die team, similar in some ways to the 2004 Champions.   A different hero each night - David Ortiz, Johnny Gomes, David Ross, Jon Lester, John Lackey.

Red Sox 2013

I'm going to list the games I attended in 2013, to go along with my scorebook.  Yep I'm a baseball geek.

• Mon. April 8, 2013 -  Opening Day at Fenway - 3 run HR by Daniel Nava to power the Sox to a 3-1 win over Baltimore.   WP Clay Buchholz
• Sun. May 26 - 4 run 9th inning rally, walk off win topped off by a Jacoby Ellsbury double.
• Sun. June 9 - Sox beat up the Angels 10-5
• Sat. July 20 5-2 loss to the Yankees with game time temps 95 degrees... sweltering! 
• Sun. Sept. 1  - Sox hold on to beat the White Sox 7-6

Nice August win for the PawSox

A short 2 hour 19 minute walk off win 2-1 for the PawSox over Scranton last night at McCoy Stadium.  The PawSox remain in first place in their quest to defend the Governor's Cup.  Ryan Lavarnway's SF knocks in Jackie Bradley Jr. to tie up the game, then Mark Hamilton singles to win it.  A great night of AAA baseball, plus I was able to see the last two innings with a friend and his kids.

Bradley had 3 of Pawtucket's 4 hits  

Pet Peeve

Parking... why must someone park like this?   Really?   You have a tiny car but you can't remain in the lines??

MLB 2013 prediction time

It's getting close to the start of the 2013 season, so I'll put up my predictions

This season seems like it can go many ways, depending on players bounce back years.   Check back in the fall to see the results

What a great month... baseball spring training, hockey, basketball, March Madness, NCAA hockey.

Meanwhile our friend Alfred Aceves is already involved in a brawl at the WBC and possible one of the top quotes of 2013.    And he wasn't even pitching, nor the instigator.  

Team Canada first base coach Larry Walker took it upon himself to restrain Aceves.

“I had ahold of him, and I thought I saw Satan in his eyes,” Walker told reporters

It's been awhile since I've posted.    First  I'm glad to see some action down in Florida, spring training.  

It's been quite a month so far, a blizzard hit us here in Rhode Island, the Ravens won the Super Bowl, the Celtics are losing guys day by day but somehow winning, and of course spring training with the Curt Schilling PED comments.   And now the Papelbon comments .. "Former Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon says he was giving injections of the drug Toradol, which is an anti-inflammatory drug with serious side effects."  It's beginning to sound like the Sox medical staff has some explaining to do.

Finally there are the sour grapes comments by Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez on the "toxic atmosphere" around the Sox.   Seems to be the big trade with the Dodgers to dump Carl, Gonzalez and Beckett seems to have cleaned up that toxicity.

Super Bowl

As you can see, my picks have been pretty bad.   For the Super Bowl, I'll take the 49ers.
I'm going more with my heart than my head, since I don't want to see another Ray Lewis celebration.

Snow and disappointment

A tough home loss to the Ravens sets up a Baltmore/SF Harbaugh Bowl.  The Patriots were suprisingly shut out at home during the 2nd half, including a couple of passes tipped and/or intercepted off Tom Brady.  Not a good game for the Pats.

We are in for our 3rd snow event of the 2012-13 winter.  Sounds like 2-4 inches overnight to make for another messy commute, similar to last week - January 16

With the big storm Dec. 28, 2012 we are up to about 13 inches of snow for the winter, perhaps up to 17 by tomorrow morning

Double OT

As I write this, it's double OT in the historic Ravens/Broncos game.   My pick was Denver, and let me get my other ones in..

Green Bay over SF  (7-7 tie now)
Seattle over Atl  (I see the Falcons as the NFC version of the Texans..overrated)
Patriots over Houston


So..that makes me 0-1...Baltimore pulls over the major upset in the cold over Peyton Manning.

Wild card update

3 out of 4... not bad, guess I should have gone to Vegas.

I am looking forward to the Patriots/Texans game next Sunday.    I think we will get a Brady/Manning AFC Championship matchup this year, then maybe a Belichick/Carroll Super Bowl with NE vs Seattle?   That would be something, our New England media would be all over that one!

Pete Carroll was the last Patriots coach prior to the BB era...I just looked it up here to make sure..it was back in 1999.

Football Wild Card picks

Update... well 2 for 2 in the Saturday games.. stay tuned.    Houston Texans visit the Patriots next week.

I'm sure you are waiting to hear my Wild Card picks... well here it goes.

• Houston over Cincinnati.  -  yes Houston has struggled, but they are at home.
• Green Bay over Minnesota - I don't see the Vikings making it very far, GB is one of my favorites to meet up with the Patriots for the title
• Indy over Baltimore - Baltimore has looked awful, Indy seems to have "Luck" on their side
• Seattle over Washington - Seattle has looked impressive, but this one is a toss up.
